Ignore personal remarks, Barisan will face states polls united, says Zahid

SUBANG JAYA: Any statements by Barisan Nasional component party officials about boycotting the six upcoming state elections are only personal remarks that do not reflect or affect the coalition's stand, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The Barisan chairman said it was a critical time with the elections looming, and unnecessary issues should not be brought up now.

"Such statements are not endorsed by Barisan.

"For parties within Barisan, we feel that we should not entertain (these) individual opinions as it would give the perception that we are (disunited).

"I am thankful that all component parties support Barisan-Pakatan Harapan in the state elections, which we will face together," the Deputy Prime Minister told a press conference after launching the 23rd Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy Association (FBINAA) Asia Pacific Retaining Conference on Monday (June 26).

He was commenting on a report that alleged that MCA wanted to boycott the state elections and did not want to assist the Barisan machinery.

For now, Ahmad Zahid said cooperation between Barisan and Pakatan is good.

"We always hold to the official stand of the leadership of Barisan component parties and parties in Pakatan," he said.

Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Penang, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu are due to hold elections soon.
